            Beautiful gardens, helpful staff

Location was further from Aix center than we expected. Asked for garden view and found they have very few and we did not receive one. Thought lack of free coffee in room or lobby was amazingly cheapskate considering the room cost and 4 star rating. Roof fan noise over room 326 was annoying. No meal or snack alternative to high cost restaurant or breakfast buffet and there is no nearby food.

            9.6

delicous gastronomic experiences, fabulous rooms, lovely grounds, wonderful friendly informative staff. Location away from central traffic-nice.

the spa massages are not actual massages;they are mearly touches, no pressure-very disappointing especially for the price!

            9.6

the room i had was very nice ( No 42) facing the garden. I loved the outdoor garden where I had lunch.

I thought the driveway entrance had too many cars and looked quite different from the picture on your website. i was expecting a more 'chateau'like entrance.

          • Older travelers
            9.6

The room was luxuroius. The bath was very warm and comfortable. The garden view was delieghtful.

I would have liked a kettle in my room so I could make coffee or tea at any time. Or, coffee and tea for hotel guests in the lobby.

          • Family with children
            8.8

We love the whole atmosphere of the hotel, the rooms are nicely decorated in line with the hotel's theme, clean and very comfortable, also ammenities well provided. The garden is just so lovely and parking is right at the hotel, lots of space/very convenient. The reception staffs were friendly and helpful.

The elevator is very small, but like many other European hotels. Breakfast is very expensive and an 8 yr old kid was charged as an adult.

          • Older travelers
            9.2

Very attractive and convenient location; country mansion and gardens but within walking distance of Aix centre. Very pleasant room, a good "deal" (otherwise expensive) and very helpful staff - especially when we were caught up in theIceland ash problems.

Food expensive (approx £20 for normal continetal breakfast), and the one dinner we had there was OK but nothing special. Better to walk into Aix for both breakfasts and evening.

          • Couple
            7.8

The hotel has kind of a surreal, otherwordly feel, in our opinion. The corridor was both weirdly decorated and lit, the pictures of famous people visiting, the entrance drive-in...it's certainly one of a kind. The garden is a spark of genius, but they want to keep it all so much to posh people, that dining in there will cost you your left kidney. A shame, as the city center has good restaurants for half the price.

With the general vibe of the hotel comes the price and the room size. For 2 people, the room would only be comfortable if you were a midget. The lamp ('lustre') was all design-y, but kind of forgot a factor people like of lamps; give off lighting. Rooms are not well lit. Also, there was a constant 24h odd sound, like a hydraulic pump, resounding through the walls. While it was not very loud, it was definitely annoying and made me wear earplugs, so light sleepers beware. Last: It's one of those hotels where cleaning ladies will enjoy making a mobile phone call when you hang a 'not to be disturbed' sign. Y'know, on the off chance you're still awake...the little pleasures they get, I guess?

The location to town was very good. The town was not close enough to walk, however by car, it was a short, easy drive. Pool was heated, and available anytime. Gardens were beautiful and very peaceful. Dinner meal was very good, however service could have been better. Room service was excellent, food was hot, well prepared and displayed, and staff was very helpful.

During two night stay, never saw the bar lounge open. Service during dinner and breakfast meals was fair. During the evening meal, I had to pour the bottle of champagne into our glasses as the waitress never refilled our glasses after the initial corking. Breakfast meal was not cooked according to how ordered, and finally got waiter to redo omelette. Room was standard, nothing luxury. Bathroom was small and awkward with toilet only in separate room. For price, view outside window was lacking. In summary, room and hotel service did not meet that of a luxury hotel for the price. I would recommend this hotel to others based on the beauty of the gardens and proximity to town.

We liked the gardens and the restaurant the best. We thought the lobby and the rooms were very tired and need to be updated, especially for the price. The restaurant service and food were outstanding.

            Aging furniture and decorating.

The garden was an amazing spot for breakfast and relaxing. The rooms were extremely clean, comfortable, spacious and attractive. Staff was wonderful. We had dinner at the restaurant on our first evening and were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the food and service.

The staff are really helpful and kind even after I left the hotel. I left my charger there, they are so kind in helping me to find ways to obtain it in the fastest and cheapest way. Their services are surely excellent.

          • Older travelers
            3.8

I suppose I would receive much more for 200 euros. Old and bad taste furniture, massive guest treatment and no charm at all. Hot day and no air conditioning in a four star hotel? Worse, nothing done about it and rude treatment when I complained. Worst experience in a hotel in decades. Run!

          • Older travelers
            9.6

The hotel was easy to find and there was good parking- vital in Aix. The receptionists were helpful and welcoming. The room was larger than at average French hotels and had all necessary amenities as well as free wi-fi. The food was excelent and when we wanted something lighter than the menu the chefs came up with an amazing salad. So good that we stayed an additional night!
